Phuket

The flights from the north of Thailand to somewhere in the south were quite expensive, so we decided to travel by bus. After Sukhothai we went to Bangkok and stayed there another night. Despite the problems with the red shirts, it was very calm, there were less tourists around Khao San road, but probably this is normal as it isn't anymore high season. Then we took from Bangkok a nightbus to Phuket where we stayed 2 days.
Well, first of all we have to say that we were quite dissappointed about this famous island. Of course there are beaches, some nice one's too, but there isn't anything more. The whole islands is like a big resort, everywhere are hotels, bungalows, houses, souvenir shops, etc., but of the nature isn't a lot left.
On the first day we just went to one of the many beaches, it was nice, very few tourists and the water as hot as the air, that means very hot!! On the second day we went around the southern part of the island by motorbike to see a bit more, or we hoped to see something more interesting, but there isn't anything to recommand.

A nice viewpoint on the western coast, one of very few highlights.

Some photos of beaches in Phuket, they all look similar, but each photo is from another one. One big problem: the beach is large but there's no shade... a few trees are along the street, but without a parasol it isn't a place to stay a long time.

Well, except beaches we also saw the "big Buddha", the view from the top of the mountain is the best of it, and a temple with a special kind of architecture.
